Exploring PRP Therapy for Hip Osteoarthritis: Recent Research Insights

Updated: Apr 18

Hip osteoarthritis (OA) and greater trochanteric bursitis (GTB) (also known as gluteal tendinopathy) are prevalent joint conditions that can cause pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility, significantly impacting quality of life for patients. While traditional treatments for hip OA and GTB aim to manage symptoms, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has emerged as a promising alternative, offering the potential for symptom relief and improved function with longer-term relief and less side-effects. In this blog post, we delve into recent research studies that highlight the effectiveness of PRP for hip OA and GTB accompanied by links to support these claims.

Recent research studies support the efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for hip osteoarthritis (OA) and greater trochanteric bursitis (GTB). While more studies are certainly pending and will be helpful to continue to guide management, it is clear that PRP is an excellent option to consider for patients dealing with hip pain from these conditions.
